Man on a Mission Statement

The vision of Silas McGuffers Photography is to increase the quality of life in the workplace, businesses and homes through the more widespread placement of enduring visual images... quality pictures which enhance any space and lift the spirit.  Both passing viewers and those regularly exposed to such photographic art in an office or business hold the management in higher regard, with all the benefits attendant, if it goes that extra step to display quality images.  Family members and guests appreciate similar additions to home decor.

Marty Peters of the Indianapolis Cultural Tourism Initiative has said that, "...culture is the rich blend of places, traditions, art forms, celebrations and experiences that make an area special," just the types of subjects that McGuffers has copiously and artfully captured on film... initially in Indiana and the Midwest and now in the Mid-Atlantic.  Even casual viewers of photos --armchair travelers-- are uplifted and enriched upon viewing pleasing shots of scenes which aren't within the scope of their daily lives, thereby giving them a helping of culture.  The more regular viewers of such art receive subtle but measureable benefits from exposure to elements of an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Large outlays from the decorating budget need not be incurred to create this type of pleasing atmosphere.  This goal is feasible for any buyer because of our belief that even fine photography can be economically-accessibile without compromise on quality.

Artist Biography

Silas McGuffers has been shooting Midwest (and now Mid-Atlantic) scenery and life since the early 1970s, covering such diverse subjects as rural and farm life, nautical and coastal scenes, historical subjects, urban views, small towns, nature, candid portraiture, meteorological phenomena, urban archaeology, artful infrastructure and creative efforts.  Long-time dedication to searching out and recording singular scenes of inherent beauty and/or graphic interest has resulted in a large image library now being actively offered to wider business and  home audiences.

Silas McGuffers is a past winner of the Indiana Historical Society's annual photo contest, taking 1st place in color for the year of Down on the Farm, and he provided 1/4 of all color shots utilized in Life in Small Towns (plus winning 3rd place).  His images have been in the marketplace since 1996 in places like the IHS History Market, Back Home Indiana/VisitIndy.Info and the South Bend Regional Museum of Art.  Works of his are on public display at the Chocolate Cafe on Monument Circle and the 2nd floor of the Hyatt Regency, both in Indianapolis. Photos of his have graced the pages of the books The Cottonwood Tree and Barns of Indiana II ,for which he was a major contributor (link to book information after text following pictures).

Silas McGuffers/Mid-Atlantic Photography is a proud member of the Indiana Historical Society, Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
